Are personal relationships deeper and more intimate than ever before or are they increasingly empty and structured by selfish individualism? This book pursues the question in a wide-ranging discussion of the changing nature of intimacy in modern societies.

The book starts by asking whether intimacy is a basic human need. The author then discusses whether a particular type of intimacy is now being sought in all close relationships in western societies, and whether this involves a sharing or our innermost selves or if relationships are still fundamentally shaped by power and economic considerations. Through a series of individual chapters focusing on relationships between parents and children, families, sexual partners, couples and friends, Jamieson shows that many current beliefs about the nature of relationships need to be re-thought, and she argues for a more grounded, gendered and complex picture of intimacy. As well as a critical evaluation of theories of change in personal life, an impressive range of scholarship from Europe, America, Australia and New Zealand is brought to bear on the issues.

Uplifting every day of the year

As soon as I got this little book I was in admiration with the texture of the cover and the embedded flying birds in it. I love it when publishers do something special with a book that can be carried everyday in your purse. Because this book is a definite gem to have handy EVERYWHERE you go. It is packed with prayers to uplift you every day and you can go back to your readings at any time of the day and reflect more on the scripture that is suggested for that day.

What is also nice about this book is that it doesn't begin with January 1st and can be started anytime during the year. Some days you will have a full page to read while other days you will get only half a page. The book covers issues from healing to family. Everything you can think off will be covered with a prayer.

The day start with a title and a reason why you could pray that. Right from the beginning the author don't waste time and starts the prayer. Somehow, without realizing it, it can easily fit into your life and what you are experiencing. To conclude, you can read the Scripture at the bottom of the page and reflect, journal and ponder on how it can be applied in your life.

I am enjoying this little book quite a bit and it can be found closely with my journal and my Bible. Being an homeschool mom I know I need to spend time to do my devotions and I usually do it early in the morning in the living room. The kids can see me daily going to read there and learn from me at the same time. So far, I have two kids independent enough to read their Bible on a daily basis. I look forward to have all four of them taking the time in the morning to spend time with God!

I would recommend this book to every women no matter where they are at in their walk in life. It can be a great tool to reflect on God's Word and grow spiritually and prayerfully as well.

Laura Taalman is Professor of Mathematics at James Madison University, USA. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and master's and PhD degrees in mathematics from Duke University. Her research includes singular algebraic geometry, knot theory, and the mathematics of games and puzzles. She is a recipient of both the Alder Award and the Trevor Evans award from the Mathematical Society of America, and the author of five books on Sudoku and the mathematics of Sudoku. Peter Kohn is Professor of Mathematics at James Madison University, USA. Our interest in Mulhouse for carbon black and soot began some 30 years ago when J.B. Donnet developed the concept of surface chemistry of carbon and its involvement in interactions with gas, liquid and solid phases. In the late sixties, we began to study soot formation in pyrolytic systems and later on in flames. The idea of organ1z1ng a meeting on soot formation originated some four or five years ago, through discussions among Professor J.B. Howard, Dr. A. D'Alessio and ourselves. At that time the scientific community was becoming aware of the necessity to strictly control soot formation and emission. Being involved in the study of surface properties of carbon black as well as of formation of soot, we realized that the combustion community was not always fully aware of the progress made by the physical-chemists on carbon black. Reciprocally, the carbon specialists were often ignoring the research carried out on soot in flames. One objective of this workshop was to stimulate discussions between these two scientific communities. During the preparation of the meeting, and especially during the review process by the Material Science Committee of the Scientific Affairs Division of N.A.T.O. the toxicological aspect emerged as being an important component to be addressed during the workshop. To reflect these preoccupations we invited biologists, physical� chemists and engineers, all leaders in their field. The final programme is a compromise of the different aspects of the subject and was divided in five sessions.

Highly dissapointing book.

To be fair to Paul Rubillo, I am a subscriber to his website Dividen.com. As a dividend investor, his website provides useful information when I am buying dividend stocks. That disclosure aside, "Be a Dividend Millionaire" was absolutely useless for a dividend investor.
The first 35 pages of the book was wasted on information telling the reader how to save money on household expenses. The same type of information that can be obtained from the financial section of any newspaper.
After the "Larry Winget" section, I kept reading fully expection to have an "AHA" moment. One or two tidbits of information that would add to my knowledge of dividend investing. To my dismay, what I read in "Dividend Millionaire" was a vague generalization of investing. The only chapter that specifically focused on dividend investing, chapter 7, had but a scant 10 pages about divideds. Following that information was a list of companies called Dividend Increasers, compiled in December 31, 2009. One would think Mr. Rubillo would add information that was not 15 month old. I was not expecting the magic formula for instant wealth, just perhaps something new to add to my knowledge base, sadly I found nothing.
In all candor, "Be a Dividend Millionaire", is not a book I would recommend to either a novice or veteran dividend investor. It is somewhat anecdotal and barely skims the surface of divided investing. It is the only book I have returned to Amazon.

This book has nothing to do with dividend stocks

Judging from the title, you'd think this book was about how to build your portfolio through dividend stocks, and how to identify/analyze them. You'd be wrong. The first quarter of the book is how to manage your expenses. The middle part of the book the author tells you stories about people daytrading and how his friends lost money because of their bad decisions. The last part of the book the author tells you how he daytrades. There's ONE page giving you a list of dividend stocks and why you should go to his website for the latest list and why you should subscribe to his newsletter. Are you kidding?

NONE of the info in the book is about investing in dividend stocks. The 5-star reviews here are obviously fake, as is this book.

Be a Dividend Millionaire

This is a well written and easy to read book - I finished it in one night. It conveys convincingly the advantages of investing in dividend stocks. Not a new idea, but Paul goes a step further by explaining the methodology used in his site (Dividend.com), to select such stocks. It also includes an engaging chapter on his life as a day trader. People in the trade will relate well to it.

Unfortunately, the book falls short on a critical aspect. It does not provide a methodology for building a portfolio. For example, if Clara has $100,000 and wants to star building a dividend driven portfolio, what are the steps she has to take? Yes, there are different lists of selected stocks in the site based on risk tolerance and yield levels - the ingredients - but the mixing instructions are nowhere to be found. A missed opportunity that should be addressed in future editions.

A book for Daydreamers... not do-ers

If you are planning to build a cabin, this book is NOT for you.
If you have some property and want to learn what it may take to build a cabin, then this is fine.

It doesnt have blueprints, step by step guides, design considerations, a good glossary, or a sample project timetable. Nothing that is useful for actual cabin planner or builder. Roofing, Foundation, Electrical, Plumbing and even framing are discussed in maybe 2-3 pages each.

It reminds me of a coloring book. Lots of pictures but very little substance.

Bottomline, if you want something to gaze at on a single lunch break, this is it. If you want to learn about cabin building run away

Looks to be quite useful

I'm thinking about a small backyard study and sauna. This book covers the basics constructing such a simple cabin, and quite a bit beyond that. There seems to be a bit of a focus on concrete pillar foundations which seems reasonable enough for small cabins. For a so-so DIY person, this book looks quite well situated, probably too simple for anyone who has built a building in the past I'm guessing. I'd be a touch careful with the book, as it seems likely that the construction techniques may not meet code in all places. It matches the rural cabin approach for sure!

Really just an advert to buy plans, leaving out estimates of construction cost etc, these are these coffee table kind of mags one leaves out at a thanksgiving dinner - no one is going to order plans based upon this

This book was originally published in 1994 as a paperback by West Publishing as "The Common Sense Rules of Trial Advocacy." The book was revised and edited, and the Foreword and Appendix 3, "How to Succeed as a Lawyer," by Roland Boyd, are new to the 2004 edition, which is hardbound.

From the Author
I wrote this book in the first place as a kind of guidebook for young lawyers who had to do a trial in court. And I have been pleased over the years to hear from people who claimed they had won a verdict because they used one of the techniques I suggested. I have been told as well that these practical rules are as useful outside the courtroom as they are in it. And I do agree that if you have to make a presentation or negotiate a deal, these rules will undoubtedly help you.

But I don't want to re-write the book so as to point out that this or that rule is of particular importance in any kind of negotiation or alternative dispute resolution, or that an account executive making a pitch should pay special attention to this one or that one. You are intelligent enough to see how a rule lifts out of the courtroom and can be used in negotiations and presentations, and, indeed, in every kind of relationship.

And it is in the framework of a trial in court that the rules can be most easily explained. So although I have been persuaded to adopt a new title, what you are getting here is more or less the original advice for the brave young lawyers who dare to do a case in court. You'll find it quite funny in places, and you'll easily decide which rules you want to take with you into your daily life and into your work.

I think the central rule of this whole book is Newton's Rule, as I have called it. "You can't possibly convict my client on this evidence," says the lawyer, and although the jury don't move a muscle you can see them all thinking, "Oh no? You wanna bet?" Every action has its equal and opposite reaction, and this rule is working all the time when people are communicating or trying to communicate.

The Golden Rules of Advocacy

When this book was originally written, it bore the title "The Golden Rules of Advocacy," and the previous edition is still available under that name from Amazon.com. I discovered "Golden Rules" on a trip to England, where I found it on sale at the information desk of the Royal Courts of Justice in London. As a recently retired trial advocate of 32 years experience, I was interested in the English perspective on trial advocacy. I bought the book and read it straight through on the flight home from England and was greatly impressed by Evans' knowledge of the essentials of trial advocacy. When I discovered "Golden Rules" on Amazon.com, I wrote a glowing review.

Then I found "Common Sense Rules," and debated ordering it. I rightly suspected it was "Golden Rules" under another name. After some time, I gave in to the urge to purchase, and I have not regretted it. "Common Sense" is "Golden Rules" revised and expanded, and set forth in a much more user-friendly format.

I lament the change of title, however. The term "Golden Rules" conveys the high ethical standard set by the book far better than "Common Sense". You can have a head full of "Common Sense" and still be as crooked as a corkscrew. Despite my preference for the former title, I cannot fault the publisher for the change. Either term is equally applicable. Maybe the third edition could be entitled "The Golden Rules of Common Sense Advocacy".

Reading this book would profit any advocate of any experience level. Judicious application of the advice contained in the book will make anyone a better advocate.

A very good book even for the layperson

This book gives you an excellent mental model for framing a strategy for conducting a case at law. In short the court Case is not a mechanism for discovering the truth/learing the facts of the case/seeing that justice is done. A court case is where two conflicting stories are conceived, built, and submitted to the Jury, who is then asked to decide which story (and sometimes which story teller) they like best. It also gives guidance on procedural matters as a jury will have no confidence in a story teller who is constantly being overruled by the court.

Overhyped, poorly written. He should have spent more time on the book and less time trying to plug it by referencing it in reviews of other legal books.
