The solutions that are in the manual are good and easy to understand. However, ONLY ANSWERS TO SELECTED ODD NUMBERED PROBLEMS are in the solution manual!! Not worth the money.

It Doesn't Have All the Answers!!

This is a pretty decent solutions manual except for the fact that it doesn't have all the answers-- to the odd problems!! It kind of felt like a waste of money because so few of the problems were actually solved and I like to practice problems and would like to know if I'm solving the problems correctly.

Trataremos de dar una respuesta en lo que sigue, analizando su trayectoria, sus escritos, pero por sobre todo contrastando lo que dijo con lo que hizo.
�Eran entonces los criollos revolucionarios o conservadores? Todo indica que ambas cosas: ellos quer�an hacer su revoluci�n “sin hacer olas”. Pero claro, para imponer su modelo de revoluci�n-orden debieron lidiar no s�lo con la “anarqu�a” popular sino tambi�n con un ala de criollos que estaba dispuesta a ir m�s lejos, hacia un desarrollo del mercado interno, un proceso de industrializaci�n, un accionar capitalista del Estado y el combate al latifundio. Es decir que, a diferencia de lo que dice Milc�ades Pe�a, la revoluci�n criolla no estaba destinada fatalmente a terminar en lo que termin�, en una burgues�a antinacional opuesta al desarrollo burgu�s. Que hab�a otro camino lo demuestran los derrotados Moreno y Artigas, pero tambi�n el Paraguay aplastado por la Guerra de la Triple Alianza del creador de la Historia de Belgrano, tras cincuenta a�os de un desarrollo capitalista end�geno, sin precedentes en nuestro continente.
�Y cu�l es el papel de Belgrano en todo esto? Belgrano debut� en el ala m�s jacobina de Mayo, junto con Castelli y Moreno. Sus campa�as al Paraguay y a la Banda oriental fueron en parte aplicaci�n del Plan de Operaciones. Belgrano quer�a la revoluci�n, quer�a que los criollos se apoderasen no s�lo de los puestos burocr�ticos sino que tambi�n hubiese un desarrollo nacional. Estaba dispuesto a incluir y favorecer a las masas indias, gauchas y mestizas, como se evidencia en el reglamento para las misiones de fines de 1810. Pero su jacobinismo, como el de los burgueses espa�oles liberales de C�diz, llegaba “hasta ah�”; una cosa era llegar como liberador paternal de las masas y otra permitir que esas masas osaran tener una pol�tica independiente. En ese caso, Belgrano desensillar� del caballo revolucionario y montar� presto el corcel del orden.
Entre las invasiones inglesas y su viaje a Europa lo encontraremos en su etapa “buena”. Es el Belgrano conocido: combatiente de los ingleses, vocal de la Junta, guerrero, creador de la bandera, etc. Un Belgrano revolucionario, categor�a �sta a la que cada corriente historiogr�fica le adjudicar� distintos significados.
Algunos episodios de ese per�odo, sin embargo, prefiguran lo que vendr� a partir de 1815: el Belgrano contrarrevolucionario.
Analizaremos a continuaci�n algunos hechos clave en la vida de Belgrano, previos y posteriores a su definitivo giro reaccionario. Algunos son conocidos y otros no. Estos �ltimos, m�s que desconocidos, parecen ser ocultos, cuidadosa y deliberadamente ocultos.
Hablar de Belgrano el contrarrevolucionario, es hablar tambi�n de Belgrano el revolucionario. En la figura de Belgrano conviven ambas facetas del proceso que dio a luz a la Argentina: la que pugn� y pugna por una transformaci�n nacional y social, y la que no estando dispuesta a pagar los costos de ello, opt� y opta por el orden. En ello est� �nsito el ADN de la burgues�a criolla.

Excellent resource

Lahr's book is a real treat. Not only are there dozens of full page reproductions of some of the most famous art works containing images of Mary Magdalene, the text itself is well written and, for the most part, historically correct. Then there are the occasional gems - an 11th century mosaic portraying Mary and the angel more like aliens. Moreover, Lahr offers large selections of text from just about every major document dealing with Mary Magdalene, from the 1st century through the 20th century.

One criticism of this extremely valuable book is that a lot of the artistic analysis seems to be based on Lahr's own impressions, rather than giving us the painter's perspective. While Lahr's opinion is obviously of interest, I'd also like to know what the artists' intentions were.

Another shortcoming is that there are many paintings of Magdalene that are not covered (I'm thinking, for example, of Rosetti's 1877 stunning portrait of the curly haired woman, or Da Vinci's sketches, or his very sexual Mary with breasts exposed). Instead, she has many paintings that do not include Mary, but focus instead on Jesus or the disciples. While this makes for a well rounded book, the title suggests that we'll focus on Mary.

Another problem is that Lahr sometimes gives us a painting with no explanation, and often it's difficult to understand what's going on and to distinguish Mary Magdalene from the other characters. This problem happens, for example, in Ruben's "Resurrection of Lazarus."

None of these minor criticisms should stop any serious student of Mary Magdalene from buying this book. It is a one-of-a-kind and very well done.

Do not miss this great book of the Saint!

My granddaughter's name is Magdalene and I love anything that tells the TRUE story of Mary Magdalene, but this book has a fantastic legacy as it follows this Saint through everything the Catholic Church put her through before her true story became common knowledge. Also, I don't think I could live without this AMAZING art work! Absolutely beautiful! Perfect for any history buff!

Not a great book if you are looking to *learn more about Mary Magdalene. But I love the set up of this book, it feels like a meditative aide. You just can't take everything in it as fact.
